d.talks Members toured behind-the-scenes at one of Calgary's active landfills. We heard about the diversion process of our commercial waste, recyling and compost. We asked questions about quantity of waste, how long it takes to fill up a channel, and what’s the process for insuring there’s no leakage into our groundwater and neighbouring lands?

A newspaper recovered from a landfill was preserved with ink still intact decades later. Removing food waste from the landfill would reduce the attraction of seagulls. And materials collection points on the site prevent building and reusable materials from entering the landfill.
