ANTI-RACISM & MARGINALIZATION
d.talks supports diversity and the identification of and elimination of racism and marginalization. The Anti-Racism and Marginalization (ARM) committee is focused on identifying solutions and resources to assist with the understanding that inequity and discrimination do not align with the city that we envision. We welcome you to join us in the discovery of strengthening our positions as anti-racist individuals.
Led by experienced d.talks volunteers, the ARM Committee supports the d.talks organization by being a sounding board to ensure that our work continues to address issues around discrimination, racism and marginalization.
#BlackLivesMatter and #IdleNoMore movements have brought buried institutional discrimination/systemic racism issues to the forefront and d.talks is responding proactively to support individuals and organizations, including our own organization, to understand how we become more inclusive. The committee collaborates to inspire d.talks to continue to be lead by being able to be accountable buddies, to inform, and to create space for “good things” that bring people together.
In January 2022, the committee organized an internal workshop led by an experienced advocate for advancing diversity and inclusion to support the Board and key volunteers in learning how to address systemic racism and discrimination.
In the process of the committee’s work, numerous calls for resources have emerged. The following resources page is a collection of works that we too are researching and learning from.
A special thank you to the committee members for leading this initiative: Darshan Tailor (chair), Mick Elliott, Alfred Gomez, Mojdeh Kamali, Trina Listanco, Alicia Ta and Sabeen Bin Zayyad. —amery Calvelli.
